I’d like to send a shout-out to my grandmother, Roma Cordingley, a sharp-tongued and witty lady who died on the morning of Friday November 13th, within spitting distance of 103. She lived in a house on a bush block outside Bendigo until past the age of 100, spending 30 years out there on her own. Enduring that sort of solitude takes a special kind of bravery. She was never short of words when she had company though, and I’m told she impressed everyone on her way out with her feistiness. The last meaningful conversation we had, she ended with “Go on then. Remember, the world is your oyster. And get that bloody hair cut.”
